Zeno Ackermann

Profile
Zeno Ackermann is research associate in the Department of English at the Freie Universität Berlin. In his Ph.D. thesis, he dealt with the ideological functions of poetological discourses in antebellum American literature. He has published extensively on the remembrance of the National Socialist past and the Holocaust in Germany. With Siegfried Grillmeyer he co-edited "Erinnern für die Zukunft: Die nationalsozialistische Vergangenheit als Lernfeld der politischen Jugendbildung" (Wochenschau Verlag 2002). He is one of the founders of the Nuremberg project Erinnerungsforum DIDANAT, a platform of public debate, didactic activities and scholarly exchange concerning the history and afterlife of the Nazi period. Apart from his engagement in the research project "Shylock in Germany", Zeno Ackermann is working on a postdoctoral thesis which will investigate discourses of remembrance in British literature and culture. His current research interests also include the functions of the Shylock topos in Great Britain and the United States as well as the interrelationships of rock and cultural criticism.
